eMMC (Embedded Multi-Media Card) is the memory chip (Flash Storage) and the same as the SD card. eMMC is a very small chip but its role in electronic devices is very important. eMMC Flash Memory chip is used in many common electronic devices like Mobile phones, Tablets, LED TV motherboards, etc. EMMC Pinout Collection is shared below.
eMMC is a simple storage device consisting of a controller and a chunk of NAND flash, all packaged in a tiny ball grid array (BGA) chip. This type of memory currently holds 128GB of data and maybe more in the future. EMMC Pinout Collection is given in the post below for the technician’s support.
We have to find the following connection/pinout to read/write the eMMC Flash Memory:
GND/VSS: – Ground for signals and power supply
VCC: – Power supply (controller core, internal RAM and NAND) Minimum voltage 2.8V, maximum 3.6V.
VCCQ: – Power supply for IO lines (voltage reference for transistors of lines D0..D7 CMD CLK) Permissible values are 1.8 to 3.3V.
CLK: – Clock signal. This is an oscillating signal usually looks like a sign wave. The clock signal is used the synchronize the data and commands signals.
CMD: – Two-direction command line in eMMC.
D0 to D7: – 3-mode data bus transmission modes – 1bit, 4bit, 8bit. DAT0 may take a bit of searching
EMMC online read and write needs to find at least 5 lines of VCC/GND/CLK/CMD/D0. VCC/GND is the best to find, no need to talk about it. If you have drawings or PCBs with EMMC removed, you can easily find the point and If you don’t have these conditions, you can find it by looking at the entire row of 0 to tens of ohms resistors and signal lines near the EMMC chip. I think the best way for VCC is to use mainboard power instead of external power.
Note: During EMMC online read and write, remember to short both pins of crystal oscillator to the ground.
